The
library could claim to be the university's collective memory. Its task is to
retrieve and store recorded knowledge of all kinds, making it available and
usable to students, researchers and academic staff.
The University's library is
comprised of the Central library and a number of smaller libraries at
some of faculties. The Central Library with an area of 8500 sq.m
is the most substantial and the largest library in the region and also the
second largest university library in the country after the library of Tehran
University .

The Central library contains
more than 55,750 titles and 85,750 Persian and foreign books ( 60% in Persian,
40% in other languages such as English, German, Arabic and French etc.) and grow
as hundreds of new books are added every year. There are also 400 titles of
postgraduate and Ph.D theses, 370 Persian and English periodicals and 400
titles of reference books including encyclopedias, glossaries, dictionaries and
reports in the form of books and audio - visual materials.
The library lends an average of 750 books to users every day. In addition, the
connections to the home and abroad academic networks and providing the necessary
information are the other possible activities in the Central Library.
It is worth mentioning that the
British Library (BL) provides copies of various articles and books on loan by
request via e - mail. For instance, more than 200 articles, periodicals and
conference proceedings were received through this system in 2000.

Library staff are trained in all
aspects of information skill, all the way from initial introduction to the
library to advanced literature searching using network databases and other
facilities.
