About
Mazandaran :
Mazandaran
is one of the 28 provinces of Iran which is located in the
north of the country. This province enjoys a colorful
historic background which extends for many centuries . In
the north of the province, there is the Caspian Sea which is
the largest lake in the world.
However, a large part of the
province is taken by the Alborz Range
with its
magnificent Damavand,
leaving only a narrow coastal strip in the west.
At its narrowest and most
attractive
point, the thickly forested northern slopes of the Alborz
roll almost to the sea.
Damavand is taken to be the highest mountain in the Eurasia
and the east of Himalayas. Demavand was considered in the
ancient Avestan texts as the "Center of the Earth" .
Its reflection in the vast paddy fields of eastern
Mazandaran
can be seen from almost anywhere.
The province of
Mazandaran
covers an area of 24091 Sq.km . It has a latitude of 35 - 38
47" and a longitude of 5016 - 5610" .The population of the
province
according to the census, is
estimated to be
about 2.8 millions.
Mazandaran with its highly
fertile land and many food production industries and other natural sources (e.g.
Oil & Gas) enjoys a very important position as the
food, agriculture and biotechnology basket of the
country as well as a industrial roll at home. Almost 90% of its land area
is presently under cultivation for rice, wheat, cereals, soya, cotton, tobacco,
sugar- beet and numerous other vegetables . Beside dairy and canned food
products, the main industrial units of the province are also engaged in the
production of textiles, leather, wood and paper.

The province
enjoys a moderate, semitropical climate with an average
temperature of 25 in summer and about 8 in winter. Although
snow may fall heavily in the mountains in winter, it rarely
falls around sea lines. It is the only province in the north
connected to the capital of Iran through the three highways
of "Haraz", "Kandovan" and "Firoozkooh" while Sari,
Nowshahr and Ramsar airports connect it to the other parts
of the country.
It is
hoped that all these amenities will provide a pleasant
environment for Iranian as well as overseas students and
researchers during their stay in the province.
